About the Author
Katrina Thornley is a Rhode Island based poet and author who lives in rural Exeter. She enjoys exploring the wooded parks in the area and learning about the history surrounding her home.
Growing up, Thornley always had a love for literature and writing. She penned her first mystery story in 2nd grade about a missing basketball (her writing has improved substantially since then). For as long as she can remember, she wanted to be a writer or a teacher (or both). She received her BA in English at the University of Rhode Island and though occasionally she still dreams of teaching, the cost of a Masters Degree keeps those dreams firmly planted on the ground.
While working at a chain coffee shop, Thornley interacted with a variety of customers and was introduced to an assortment of characters for future books and poems. She plucked characteristics from her world to create her novel Kings of Millburrow and the short stories in 26 Brentwood Avenue.
Thornley was timid about publication, but one day her friend said, “Just do it.” And that was it. The first poetry collection, Arcadians: Lullaby in Nature, that she had written after a particularly gruesome split with a fellow writer was brought to life. The collection was inspired by the beauty of Rhode Island and Browning Mill Pond. Thornley had spent many hours at Browning Mill Pond throughout her life and considered it a haven of sorts. During the publication of Lullaby in Nature, Thornley was also petitioning to stop the state from building a large office building there. (Fun fact, the building was never constructed).
By day, Thornley works in customer service at a local factory. By night, she continues to write thrilling and mysterious novels while also working as a freelance journalist for Southern RI News.
